Daily Thoughts for March 2021

“Dominion Voting Systems has filed a $1.6bn (£1.2bn) defamation lawsuit against Fox News, arguing it promoted baseless claims of vote-rigging. Conservatives and Trump campaigners had claimed last year that the US company had altered its voting machines to deny re-election to Donald Trump. The false claim of a stolen election was promoted by Mr Trump and helped fuel the 6 January attack on Congress. Fox News said it would fight the "baseless lawsuit in court" The fairness of the. democratic system is under attack by those who lost but cannot take the truth.  God only knows how this will all work out.”

“Former SNP leader Alex Salmond has announced the creation of a new pro-independence party which will stand in the Scottish Parliament election. He said the Alba Party expected to field at least four candidates across every region of the country. His statement came at the end of a dramatic week at Holyrood. On Wednesday, Mr Salmond said he would take fresh legal action over the conduct of the Scottish government's top civil servant.  So, Scotland have a choice, but will it confuse the issue and weaken their voice as a whole.”

“At least five people have been killed in Alabama, as tornadoes continue to batter the southern US state. The deaths were in the small town of Ohatchee in Calhoun County, the local emergency agency said, as the storm damaged houses and uprooted trees. The tornadoes later hit Chilton County and were nearing Shelby Country. "I urge all folks in the path of these tornadoes and storm systems to remain on high alert," Governor Kay Ivey said. "The day is not over yet."  May our Creator show us the way to protect ourselves from natural hazards and keep our loved ones safe.”

“North Korea has fired two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, says the US and Japan - the first such test since Joe Biden became US president. Pyongyang is banned from testing ballistic missiles, considered threatening weapons, under UN Security Council resolutions. Both Japan and South Korea have condemned the test. It comes just days after North Korea reportedly fired two non-ballistic missiles into the Yellow Sea. Japan said no debris had fallen within its territorial waters. Pray to God to keep us safe from deliberate provocations.”

“A giant container ship the length of four football pitches has become wedged across Egypt's Suez Canal, blocking one of the world's busiest trade routes. Dozens of vessels are stuck, waiting for rescue boats to free the 400m-long (1,312ft) ship, which was knocked off course by strong winds. Egypt has reopened the canal's older channel to divert some traffic until the grounded ship can move again. The blockage sent oil prices climbing on international markets. About 12% of global trade passes through the Suez Canal, which connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea and provides the shortest sea link between Asia and Europe.  God reminds us of our fragile dependency!”

“Pope Francis has ordered pay cuts for cardinals and other clerics as the Vatican battles to balance its books during the pandemic. Cardinals will see their pay reduced by 10% from April, the Vatican said. They are believed to receive up to €5,000 (£4,300; $5,900) a month and often live-in subsidized accommodation. The Vatican expects a deficit of €50m this year. Its income has been badly hit by the closure of museums and other attractions in the pandemic.  Why don’t they go further and reduce world poverty?  They have multiple assets!”

“Virginia has become the first Southern US state to abolish the death penalty after its governor signed into law a bill that ends capital punishment.  Governor Ralph Northam said the repeal would stop a "machinery of death" with a history of racial disparities. It comes at a time of renewed national debate on the topic of executions. Virginia has executed more people than any other state except Texas since capital punishment was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1976.  God clearly says, “Thou Shall not Kill.””

“A volcano has erupted south-west of Iceland's capital Reykjavik; the country's meteorological office says. It says the fissure is about 500-700 meters long (1,640-2,300ft) at Fagradalsfjall on Reykjanes peninsula. The last eruption there was some 800 years ago. Iceland has recorded more than 40,000 earthquakes in the past three weeks. In 2010, the eruption of another volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, brought air traffic to a halt across Europe. However, the eruption of Fagradalsfjall is not expected to spew out much ash or smoke, so aviation should not suffer disruption.  God takes the lid off the pressure cooker, so the world remains safe.  We must look after it as best we can.”

“It's a longstanding mystery: how Mars lost the water that flowed across its surface billions of years ago. Scientists now think they have an answer: much of it became trapped in the outer layer of Mars - its crust. They argue that a vast amount of Mars' ancient water is locked up in minerals below the surface of the Red Planet. Researchers then developed a computer simulation of how water was lost over time. Earth has a magnetic shield, or magnetosphere, that prevents the atmosphere from escaping. But Mars' magnetic shield is weak and could have allowed the elemental constituents of water to escape into space.  Where will this lead us?  We can’t look after our own planet let alone Mars.”

“Donald Trump's net worth dropped by about $700m to $2.3bn (£1.65bn) during his time as president, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The Covid-19 pandemic hit his fortunes hard, with Mr Trump's office buildings, branded hotels and resorts losing revenue and falling in value. His fleet of planes and golf courses have also seen drops in their value. Mr Trump is currently under a criminal investigation into his financial affairs and his family business.  You reap what you sow. This is according to Spiritual Law.”

“The Duke of Edinburgh is said to be in good spirits on leaving hospital after a month-long stay for treatment. Prince Philip, 99, was admitted to King Edward VII's hospital in central London on 16 February after feeling unwell.  He later underwent a successful procedure for a per-existing heart condition at another London hospital - St Bartholomew's. The duke has now returned to Windsor Castle. In a statement on Tuesday, Buckingham Palace said the duke was discharged "following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a per-existing condition".  We give thanks to Almighty God for the safe return of this man to his family and friends.”

“A rare songbird has become so threatened that it has started to lose its song, say scientists. The regent honeyeater, once abundant in south-eastern Australia, is now listed as critically endangered; just 300 individuals remain in the world. "They don't get the chance to hang around with other honeyeaters and learn what they're supposed to sound like," explained Dr Ross Crates. We need to pray to God to send His Angels to look after this threatened species and show us what to do.”

“The Catholic Church does not have the power to bless same-sex unions, the Vatican office responsible for doctrine has said. It is "impossible" for God to "bless sin", the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) said on Monday. But the CDF did note the "positive elements" in same-sex relationships. In October, Pope Francis said in a documentary that he thought same-sex couples should be allowed to have "civil unions".  As the Roman Catholic Church has revealed, it has a history of abuse on moral issues.  Perhaps it should keep quiet on what God thinks.”

“President Joe Biden has said he is hopeful that America can "mark independence" from Covid-19 on 4 July if people get vaccinated. In his first prime time address as President, Mr Biden said he would order states to make all adults eligible for vaccinations by 1 May.  It is good to have sanity in control in America again and all God-fearing people have direction and good advice.”

“A 2,000-year-old device often referred to as the world's oldest "computer" has been recreated by scientists trying to understand how it worked.  The Antikythera Mechanism has baffled experts since it was found on a Roman-era shipwreck in Greece in 1901.  The hand-powered Ancient Greek device is thought to have been used to predict eclipses and other astronomical events.  God shows us that we aren’t so clever and so much has been done before.”

“Like many Sicilians from Catania, the 18-year-old has learnt quickly how to make her way home on a road covered in volcanic dust during one of the volcano's 11 eruptions in the past three weeks. A 12th eruption was under way on Friday. Every so often, the volcano's four main craters awake with intense, simultaneous blasts. These episodes create a spectacular natural firework display, replete with bubbles, fountains and flows of lava. Within minutes, neighboring towns and villages are showered with flakes of ash and other debris.  God shows His natural power in controlling the pressures of the globe we live on.”

“The Metropolitan Police's handling of a vigil in south London to mourn Sarah Everard has been widely criticized across the political spectrum. Home Secretary Priti Patel has asked the Met for a report on what happened, while London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was "urgently seeking an explanation" from Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick. Officers were seen handcuffing and leading women away from the event. Police said four arrests were made at the vigil to "protect people's safety".  As aggression and uncertainty led by political point scoring, leads to the support of the very people in need being unprotected, we ask God to find a way to bring peace and harmony to all people.”

“Myanmar's military rulers have accused the ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi of illegally accepting $600,000 (£430,000) and gold. The allegation is the strongest yet leveled by the military since it overthrew Ms Suu Kyi and the country's democratic leadership on 1 February. No evidence was provided for the charge.  These bully boys are acting beyond their remit to rule over God’s chosen people and will be brought down in God’s chosen time.”

“China and Russia have announced plans to build a lunar space station. Russian space agency Roscosmos says it has signed an agreement with China's National Space Administration to develop research facilities on the surface of the moon, in orbit or both. A statement from both countries' space agencies says it will be available for use by other nations.  May God allow this to be done in peace and harmony and not start the war of this world.”

“A Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested over the disappearance of Sarah Everard in south London in a "serious and significant development". Ms Everard, 33, was last seen in Clapham at about 21:30 GMT on 3 March. The man was arrested in Kent on Tuesday. Police said he had been off duty when she went missing but added that the fact, he was a serving officer was "shocking and deeply disturbing".  One prays for the safety of young women in London, when even a policeman appears not to be trusted.  Pray to God for His protection.”

“Thousands of flamingo birds migrate to lakes and wetlands of western India to find food and better nesting grounds. The annual spectacle in Navi Mumbai city has drawn people from nearby cities and towns. Bird watchers say that the growing number of flamingos in the city is a good sign. But they add that authorities need to do more to ensure that the annual migration pattern is not disturbed because of construction activity in the area.  We must preserve these natural events that God has given us to wonder at.”

“Retreating glaciers in the Himalayas are not only dangerously filling up glacial lakes but they are also causing other hazards that are not being monitored, scientists have warned.  The recent flash flood disaster in India's Uttarakhand state, they say, is the latest example of such a perilous knowledge gap.  We must take responsibility and study the effects of Global Warming before it is too late. Too many are shutting their eyes to its effects.”

“Police in China and South Africa have seized thousands of doses of counterfeit Covid-19 vaccine and made dozens of arrests, Interpol says. In China, police made 80 arrests at a factory allegedly making fake vaccine, where at least 3,000 doses were found. Three Chinese nationals and a Zambian were detained at a warehouse in Gauteng, South Africa, where ampoules containing 2,400 doses were discovered.  Is nothing sacred?  To attempt to make money from fake vaccines leaving many unprotected is nothing short of criminal.”

“Protecting the forests of Virunga National Park in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo - home to endangered mountain gorillas - could be described as one of the toughest jobs on the planet. In the past 12 months, more than 20 of the park's staff have been murdered - and last week rebels were accused of killing the Italian ambassador to DR Congo, his security guard and driver in an attack within the park. We ask Almighty God to show us how to react to the negativity of those who hate life, especially of others.”

“A small bowl bought for just $35 (£25) at a market sale in the US state of Connecticut has turned out to be a rare 15th-Century Chinese artifact. The white porcelain bowl was spotted by an unidentified antiques enthusiast near New Haven last year, and they quickly sought an expert evaluation. The experts came back with good news, revealing that the bowl is thought to be worth between $300,000 and $500,000. God works in mysterious ways.”

“Scientists say they have found that three deep-water shark species living off New Zealand glow in the dark.  The species were collected from the Chatham Rise - an area of ocean floor to the east of New Zealand - in January of last year, according to the study. One of them, the kitefin shark, is now the largest known luminous vertebrate and can reach up to 180cm (5ft 11in). Bioluminescence was also confirmed in the blackbelly lanternshark and southern lanternshark. The evolution of God’s Creation never ceases to amaze as we learn evermore about His genius of understanding.”

Sister Ann Roza is in tears as she describes how she begged soldiers: "Please kill me. I don't want to see people being killed." A nun who knelt in front of armed security forces in Myanmar to stop them firing on civilians has said she was prepared to die to save protestors' lives. In extraordinary scenes in Myitkyina, Kachin State, Sister Ann Roza Nu Tawng can be seen pleading with police and soldiers not to shoot. The intervention has been called Myanmar's "Tienanmen moment.  Filled with the courage of the Holy Ghost she made her stand to show her faith in the face of real danger.”

“Just a fortnight ago, Australia was shocked by a former political adviser's allegations that she had been raped in the nation's Parliament House. Brittany Higgins said she'd been attacked by a male colleague - also an adviser for the ruling Liberal Party - in a government minister's office in 2019.  This shocking disclosure is typical of a male dominated coverup society.  Women need support not further disrespect and bullying by the powerful, who always think they can get away with their abuse.  God sees all and they will be punished.”

“French ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to three years in jail, two of them suspended, for corruption. The 66-year-old was found guilty of trying to bribe a magistrate by offering him a prestigious job in return for information about a separate criminal case against Sarkozy.  Spiritual Law has found this man out and the trust of the French is people restored.”

“The fiancée of the murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has called for Saudi Arabia's crown prince to be "punished without delay" over his killing. "This will not only bring the justice we have been seeking.... but it could also prevent similar acts recurring," Hatice Cengiz said in a statement.  Our hearts go out in sympathy to her, but God is the only one who can give her the justice that she deserves.”

“Health officials are trying to trace one person in England who has been infected with a concerning variant of coronavirus first found in Brazil. They are one of six cases of the P1 variant found in the UK in February. The person did not complete a test registration form so remains unidentified - prompting an appeal for anyone without a result from a test on 12 or 13 February to come forward.  God it seems was not smiling on the good work of border control but will show up this dissident of his fellow man.”
