Daily Thoughts fot April 2021

“The world's glaciers are melting at an accelerating rate, according to a comprehensive new study.  A French-led team assessed the behavior of nearly all documented ice streams on the planet. The researchers found them to have lost almost 270 billion tonnes of ice a year over the opening two decades of the 21st Century. The melt-water produced now accounts for about a fifth of global sea-level rise, the scientists tell Nature journal. The numbers involved are quite hard to imagine, so team member Robert McNabb, from the universities of Ulster and Oslo, uses an analogy.  We must learn to help ourselves and not leave everything to God to sort out for us.  We need to take responsibility for our actions and save our planet from our own mistakes.”

“The former chief executive of the Post Office has quit her roles on the boards of Morrison’s and Dunelm following the IT scandal which led to the wrongful convictions of former postmasters. The supermarket announced Paula Vennells would leave after serving as a non-executive director since 2016. She is also relinquishing her non-executive position at home furnishing retailer Dunelm with immediate effect. She is also stopping her duties as an ordained Church of England minister. Ms Vennells said: "It is obvious that my involvement with the Post Office has become a distraction from the good work undertaken by the boards I serve. I have therefore stepped down with immediate effect from all of my board positions." No apologies for the misery she caused the many former postmasters, who were wrongly convicted through the actions of an ordained Church of England minister.”

“A rare insect has been spotted in Scotland for the first time in more than 30 years. The cow wheat shieldbug was found in woodland in Strathspey in the Cairngorms. The discovery marked only the eighth time the bug has been recorded in Scotland. Four of the previous records have come from Strathspey, one from Perthshire in 1879, one from Argyll and Bute in 1890 and one from Loch Rannoch in 1989. The insect has a black body featuring two distinctive white spots. It is considered to be nationally scarce across the UK, and scientists said there had been "worrying declines" of the creature in the south-east of England in recent years. Every one of God’s evolved creatures is welcome on this planet and has as much right to live here as you or I.  Give thanks for its survival.”

“A submarine missing since Wednesday off the coast of Bali with 53 people on board has been lost, the Indonesian navy said on Saturday. Parts of the submarine, along with debris including prayer mats, were found near to where it went missing, the navy chief of staff said. A scan detected the sub at a depth of 850m (2,800ft), well beyond its survivable limit. It was only carrying enough oxygen for three days. The KRI Nanggala disappeared after requesting permission to dive during a torpedo drill. The German-built vessel was more than 40 years old but underwent a refit in 2012. The Indonesian navy has insisted the sub was in good condition but an oil slick where it is thought the vessel submerged has raised concern that the fuel tank may have been damaged. Our prayers go out to the families and friends of these 53 people who have lost their lives.  They will have been well received in the next world and will be healed and loved by their reception committee.”

“A man has been accused of taking part in the US Capitol riots after allegedly boasting about it on a dating app. Robert Chapman, from New York, told a user he matched with on the dating app Bumble "I did storm the Capitol", FBI court filings say. They replied, "we are not a match", and shared a screenshot of the exchange with authorities. Mr Chapman was arrested and charged in New York on Thursday; media reports say.  This man is filled with ego, arrogance and hate.  Spiritual Law will see him brought down.”

“Three members of the Catholic clergy kidnapped in Haiti earlier month this have been released, officials say. But seven other people - including a French nun and a French priest - abducted in the town of Croix-des-Bouquets remain in captivity. The kidnappers had demanded $1m (£722,000) as a ransom payment after they seized the group on 11 April. Haiti's President Jovenel Moïse has vowed to "do everything the law allows" to secure their release. "Three of the seven clergy kidnapped on April 11 were released," Father Loudger Mazile, spokesman for the Bishop's Conference of the island nation, told the AFP on Thursday. Nobody is safe.  An undisclosed ransom will be paid.  Even the Church cannot protect their own.”

“US President Joe Biden has told a major summit that we are in a "decisive decade" for tackling climate change. The US has pledged to cut carbon emissions by 50-52% below 2005 levels by the year 2030. This new target, which was unveiled at a virtual summit of 40 global leaders, essentially doubles their previous promise. But the leaders of India and China, two of the world's biggest emitters, made no new commitments. "Scientists tell us that this is the decisive decade - this is the decade we must make decisions that will avoid the worst consequences of the climate crisis," President Biden said at the summit's opening address. "We must try to keep the Earth's temperature to an increase of 1.5C. The world beyond 1.5 degrees means more frequent and intense fires, floods, droughts, heatwaves and hurricanes - tearing through communities, ripping away lives and livelihoods." Don’t think for a moment that God is not watching.  Spiritual Law will be applied.  It won’t be the first time that this planet has been destroyed.”

“Researchers say Artificial Intelligence (AI) has for the first time shown that two scribes wrote part of the mysterious ancient Dead Sea Scrolls. Tests were carried out on the longest text, known as the Great Isaiah Scroll. It was found that probably two unknown individuals had copied down the words using near-identical handwriting. The scrolls, which include the oldest known version of the Bible, have been a source of fascination since their discovery some 70 years ago.  They say that God moves in mysterious ways His wonders to perform.”

“The Queen has thanked the public for their tributes to her husband, the late Duke of Edinburgh, as she marked her 95th birthday. On the Royal Family Twitter account, she said: "My family and I would like to thank you for all the support and kindness shown to us in recent days." She said the tributes had been a comfort in a "period of deep sadness". The Queen's birthday, which comes four days after the duke's funeral, is being marked in a low-key, private way.  God bless Her Majesty.”

“A jury has found a former police officer guilty of murder over the death of African American George Floyd on a Minneapolis street last year. Derek Chauvin, 45, was filmed kneeling on Mr Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes during his arrest last May. The widely watched footage sparked worldwide protests against racism and excessive use of force by police. Chauvin was found guilty on three charges: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter. He will remain in custody until he is sentenced and could spend decades in jail. The 12-member jury took less than a day to reach their verdict, which followed a highly charged, three-week trial that left Minneapolis on edge.  A fair and just verdict according to God’s Laws.  Now America must unit as one nation and not two.”

“Around 200 tonnes of illegally harvested giant clam shells worth nearly $25 million (£18 million) have been seized in the Philippines. The seizure is one of the largest ever hauls of the endangered species. Four suspects have been arrested on an island in the ecologically protected province of Palawan. Giant clams can grow larger than one meter across and weigh up to 250kg. They are seen as vital to the local marine ecosystem. The Philippines is home to most of the world's giant tropical clam species. Jovic Fabello, spokesman for the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, said that the seized shells included Tridacna gigas, the world's largest clam.   When will people stop their greed in making money against Laws that are in place to keep our world in balance and harmony?”

“China and the US say they are committed to working together and with other countries on tackling climate change. It comes after several meetings between Chinese climate envoy Xie Zhenhua and his US counterpart John Kerry in Shanghai last week. They both agreed on further specific actions to reduce emissions, a joint statement on Sunday confirmed.  May God guide the words and actions to make this globe safe and clean up the mess that Mankind has made of this beautiful world.”

“The Duke of Edinburgh has been laid to rest in an intimate funeral at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The Dean of Windsor paid tribute to Prince Philip's "kindness, humor and humanity" during the ceremony. The congregation wore masks and was socially distanced in line with Covid rules, with the Queen seated alone. The duke's children walked behind his coffin in a funeral procession, followed by a national minute's silence. More than 730 members of the armed forces took part in the event, but there was a limit of 30 mourners inside St George's Chapel, under coronavirus rules. The Heavens received this wonderful man with love and honor.  He will never be forgotten, as he has left his mark on the world that he has left.”

“Chicago police have released graphic footage of an officer shooting dead a 13-year-old boy in a dark alley. Body-cam video shows the policeman shouting "drop it" before shooting Adam Toledo once in the chest on 29 March. The boy does not appear to be holding a weapon in the split second he is shot, but police video shows a handgun near the spot where he falls. Small protests were held on Thursday evening around Chicago, hours after the city's mayor appealed for calm. The video's release follows the fatal police shooting on 11 April of Daunte Wright by an officer in a Minneapolis suburb. That shooting has sparked violent protests as the city awaits the outcome of the trial of Derek Chauvin, the officer accused in the death of George Floyd.   When will the American police learn that all life is sacred?  They are not cowboys with nothing to do but kill anything that moves.  Thou shall not kill.”

“The number of one-horned rhinos in Nepal's wildlife sanctuaries has increased by more than a hundred, marking a positive milestone in the Himalayan nation's conservation efforts. According to the results of the latest census, Nepal's rhino population has risen to 752, from 645 in 2015. Nepal is among only a few countries where greater one-horned rhinos are found. The animal was close to extinction in the last century, and its revival in Nepal and India is regarded as one of the greatest conservation success stories in Asia.  We need to give thanks to these dedicated men and women, who are so guided by the Great Spirit to whom they listen and so succeed.”

“The world’s wealthy must radically change their lifestyles to tackle climate change, a report says.  It says the world's wealthiest 1% produce double the combined carbon emissions of the poorest 50%, according to the UN. The wealthiest 5% alone – the so-called “polluter elite” - contributed 37% of emissions growth between 1990 and 2015. The authors want to deter SUV drivers and frequent fliers – and persuade the wealthy to insulate their homes well.  God has given us free will, but we still have to take responsibility for our actions and work for the greater good.”

Tear gas has been fired and a curfew imposed amid angry protests after police fatally shot a black man in a traffic stop in the US city of Brooklyn Center, just north of Minneapolis. The man has been identified by relatives as 20-year-old Daunte Wright. Brooklyn Center's mayor issued a city-wide curfew until 06:00 (11:00 GMT), telling people to "be safe, go home". Tensions in Minneapolis are high as the trial of the former officer accused of killing George Floyd takes place. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he was "closely monitoring the situation" and praying for Mr Wright's family.  When will they ever learn how to police with dignity and love of their fellow man?”

“As Britain mourns the death of Prince Philip, they are joined by a tribal community on a Pacific island half a world away. For decades, two villages on the Vanuatuan island of Tanna have revered the Duke of Edinburgh as a god-like spiritual figure. A formal mourning period is now under way, and scores of tribes people are gathering on Monday in a ceremony to remember Prince Philip.  Well may he deserve the honor and the Almighty will smile upon him.”

“There has been another "explosive event" at a volcano on the Caribbean island of St Vincent, with power outages and water supplies cut off. The La Soufriere volcano first erupted on Friday, blanketing the island in a layer of ash and forcing some 16,000 people to evacuate their homes. Residents in Barbados, nearly 200km (about 124 miles) to the east, have also been urged to stay indoors. Scientists warn that eruptions could continue for days - or even weeks. On Sunday, St Vincent's emergency management organization Nemo tweeted: "Massive power outage following another explosive event at La Soufriere Volcano. Lightning, thunder and rumblings. Majority of the country out of power and covered in ash." May God prepare us for these natural events and show us how to live our lives in safety.”

“George Floyd died from a lack of oxygen as he was pinned "in a vice" against the street during his arrest, a doctor at the trial of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis has said. Intensive care doctor Martin Tobin said Mr Floyd had died of asphyxia from the way he was restrained. Mr Chauvin, 45, was filmed kneeling on Mr Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes during his arrest last May. The ex-officer is on trial for murder and has denied the charges against him. Dr Tobin also contradicted the defense's argument that the painkiller fentanyl was the cause of Mr Floyd's inability to breathe. A toxicology report released last June said that Mr Floyd had fentanyl in his system.  Let the Almighty allow the truth to be aired and reflected in the verdict and subsequent sentencing by the Judge.”

“US President Joe Biden is to target homemade "ghost guns" as part of a new set of measures to tackle gun violence, a White House official has said. Ghost guns have no serial numbers, making them difficult to trace. They can be bought by minors and people who would not pass background checks. Mr Biden will enact the measures through an executive order, meaning he will not need approval from Congress. The move comes after high-profile mass shootings last month. A total of 18 people died in two mass shootings, one in Boulder, Colorado and the other in Atlanta Georgia. The executive order will include measures on the use of stabilizing braces and community violence prevention.  Why does God allow the American dream to be about killing each other?  The answer is that this is man’s doing not Gods.”

“An emergency meeting of Northern Ireland's power-sharing executive will take place on Thursday morning after a night of violence in west Belfast. During several hours of rioting police officers were attacked, petrol bombs were thrown, and a bus was burnt. The Police Federation said seven officers were injured during the violence on both sides of an interface between loyalist and nationalist areas. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the scenes "deeply concerned" him. The "involvement of proscribed organizations is likely" in the disorder, according to Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Assistant Chief Constable Jonathan Roberts. He said several hundred people on each side were throwing petrol bombs in both directions in the loyalist Shankill Road and the nationalist Springfield Road. Why can’t people live in peace according to God’s Law?  Let hatred turn to love and may peace and harmony reign.”

“The UK has more than enough supply of the Pfizer and Moderna jabs to vaccinate all adults under 30, the health secretary has said. The UK drugs regulator says people aged 18 to 29 should be offered an alternative vaccine due to evidence linking AstraZeneca jabs to blood clots. Matt Hancock said the UK is on track to vaccinate all adults by 31 July. He said 8.5 million adults under-30s had not yet been vaccinated. Mr Hancock said the AstraZeneca jab remained safe but if adults under 30 wanted "to have Pfizer or Moderna that's fine". There is "more than enough of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine" for the 8.5 million people under 30 who are yet to be vaccinated in the UK to have two doses, he said.  We are blessed to be so well looked after with vaccination jabs.”

“Speeches by beauty pageant contestants rarely make headlines. But when Han Lay, Miss Grand Myanmar, spoke out last week against alleged atrocities committed by her country's military, her speech turned heads. "Today in my country Myanmar ... there are so many people dying," she said at the Miss Grand International 2020 event in Thailand. "Please help Myanmar. We need your urgent international help right now." A little over a month ago, Han Lay, who is 22, was on the streets of Yangon, Myanmar's largest city, protesting against the military.  May God bless and reward her bravery and love for her people.”

“Crowds of Egyptians lined the streets to witness an historic procession of their country's ancient rulers through the capital, Cairo. The lavish, multi-million-dollar spectacle saw 22 mummies - 18 kings and four queens - transported from the peach-colored, Neo-classical Egyptian Museum to their new resting place 5km (three miles) away. With tight security arrangements befitting their royal blood and status as national treasures, the mummies were relocated to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in what is called The Pharaohs' Golden Parade. They were transported with great fanfare in chronological order of their reigns - from the 17th Dynasty ruler, Seqenenre Taa II, to Ramses IX, who reigned in the 12th Century BC.  History on the move.  Beware of the Curse of the Pharaohs!”

“A mural in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore has been created in Manchester. Street artist Akse P19 painted the artwork in tribute to the 100-year-old, who died on 2 February after contracting coronavirus. The Army veteran won the nation's hearts by walking 100 laps of his garden during the first lock down, raising almost £33m for NHS charities. The mural has been painted on the corner of Tib Street and Thomas Street in the city's Northern Quarter.  Akse P19 is the artist behind a number of murals in the city including a tribute to NHS workers and George Floyd, who died after being arrested in the US in May.  What wonderful work that we can all enjoy and pay our respects to those in the artwork.”

“Italian authorities have approved a ban on cruise ships entering the historic center of Venice. The country's culture minister said on Wednesday that the decision came in response to a request from UN cultural body UNESCO. Large ships will now have to dock at the city's industrial port until a permanent solution is found. Critics argue the ships cause pollution and erode the foundations of the city, which suffers from regular flooding.  Greed comes before a fall and by Spiritual Law they must replace what they take away.”

“Facebook has removed a video of former US President Donald Trump from the page of his daughter-in-law Lara Trump. The social media giant banned Mr Trump from its platform in January following riots by his supporters on the Capitol building in Washington. Lara Trump, a new Fox News contributor, posted a video of herself interviewing Mr Trump on a range of issues.  The Law of Disorder applies here and it will be made harmony again.”

“Among the virtues of bees, you may not be aware of is their knack for detecting bombs. Thanks to the fact that they can pick up the scent of explosives with their antennae, researchers in countries such as Croatia have spent years perfecting how to use bees as landmine locators. But there's a problem. As the insects whizz merrily about a mine-contaminated area, it's extremely difficult for humans to keep track of where they go, not least because chasing bees across a minefield is not a great idea.  God shows us the means and we must learn how best to use it.”

“Prime Minister Boris Johnson has joined more than 20 world leaders in calling for a new global settlement to help the world prepare for future pandemics. In a newspaper article the leaders, including the German chancellor and French president, said Covid posed the biggest challenge since World War Two. The pandemic has shown "nobody is safe until everyone is safe", they said.  Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said the UK would need a surplus of vaccines before it could export supplies.  We must all be ready to take responsibility for our health issues and not leave everything in God’s hands alone.”
